2nd Annual AIIMS Forensic Guild Conclave-2021

From March 19th to 20th, 2021, the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at AIIMS New Delhi organized the 2nd Annual AIIMS Forensic Guild Conclave 2021. The event, held over two days, welcomed faculties of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology from various AIIMS campuses across the country.

DAY 1:

The event kicked off with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of auspicious proceedings. Dr. BB Choudhary, DCP, Delhi Police, and Dr. Sudhir K Gupta inaugurated the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of proper training for police and non-medical staff in medico legal work, as well as effective communication between doctors and law enforcement.

Scientific sessions included discussions on topics such as “Futuristic Vision in Forensic Medicine,” “Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in Virtual Autopsy,” and “Pros and Cons of Using Digital X-ray Imaging in a Forensic Setting in India.” Delegates were also given detailed tours of the toxicology and DNA laboratories, as well as the postmortem and embalming wings.

A keynote session by Dr. Sudhir K Gupta explored the nuances of providing second or third opinions in cases referred by the CBI or the court. Delegates had the opportunity to review actual case files and engage in discussions with board members to understand the decision-making process in forensic medicine.

DAY 2:

The second day featured sessions on “Forensic Histopathology” and a guest lecture by Dr. Elif Günçe from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on “Humanitarian Forensic Action.” A panel discussion focused on future plans for advancing forensic medicine in India and elevating AIIMS forensic medicine departments to international standards.

The event concluded with a valedictory function, acknowledging the contributions of participants and reflecting on the insights gained over the two-day conclave.
